I admit, I’m slightly obsessed with reading my horoscope. Be it daily, weekly, monthly – hey, if you can tell me what’s coming up in the next hour I’d want to know. But despite all the foresight, I’m still often caught by the element of surprise; albeit the surprise of when a horoscope prediction becomes true, thank you very much Jessica Adams!

Whether I like it or not, I’m a Virgo. At my worst I’m a worrier, perfectionist and analytical; but at my best I’m fiercely loyal, candid and well, uncharacteristically kooky. With my birthday month just two weeks away, and a new job in tow, I wanted to find something really cool this year to gift myself with. Zodiac accessories carry the essence of monogramming without being so obvious, but it’s really hard to find good zodiac accessories that isn’t a cheap pendant on a ball chain!

I did dig a little deeper and uncovered a few gems…so while I work my way up to saving for a gorgeous zodiac Charlotte Olympia Pandora clutch, I leave you with your prediction for the day, gifting ideas are up ahead…

Out of the certain few pieces in my closet that only make sense during Summer, such as, my jersey maxi dresses, backless tshirts, jelly sandals, I tend to be most excited about one particular item, the cah-lassic cotton bandana. Simply for its retro goodness and tough luxe aesthetic, paired with my favourite off duty hairstyle, this is the look that highlights my Summer!

Retro bandana hairstyles

Keeping the rest of your outfit simple, you’d be surprised to know it’s easier to style than you think. I like to match my lipstick to the colour of the bandana I’m wearing (especially red!), but then everything else is kept minimal and modern. Think plain tees, classic camis and skinny jeans – cat flick eyeliner is optional, but they are fun!

WEEKENDER – Clash with leopard, and trust it really works!

There are a fair few ways to tie a bandana headscarf, but I like to have the customary knotted “bunny ear” ends. Starting at one corner of the square, fold your way to the opposite diagonal corner (so that you get a headband on its stretchiest grain, the bias). I tend to fold an inch and a half wide but it all depends on how wide you want your headband to be. Alternatively, you can always twist from one corner to the opposite end for a textured style.

It’s official! Prom season is here, and it’s had me thinking again about my own High School prom experience. I was still living in New York and we had our prom at the Marriott hotel in the heart of Times Square. It was an evening that included pink taffeta, a black stretch limo, one crashed party and midnight bowling in a ballgown…

Prom Queen

By the time I was a High School senior, it didn’t matter that we were a class of predominantly female students, we wanted our prom night to be magical, and we wanted it to be everything we’d heard and seen how middle-America proms were supposed to be. Unlike most traditional American teens, I went to a vocational High School in Manhattan and started studying fashion at 14. And much like how you’d find in any High Street head office today, it was mainly us girls and we dressed for each other. But we did have a prom king and queen that year, albeit naturally went to one of the actual few couples that existed in our small class at the time.

When I think back to my pink dress, it was so unlike me. From the delicate colour right down to the styling; it was strapless, floor length with a voluminous skirt supported by a gathered net slip underneath, but this was my night to be Cinderella (even though there was no Prince Charming but, my Dad did want me back home by midnight!).

We didn’t have a High Street then (not that New York does now either), you bought your prom dress in a department store and it wasn’t a stylish one like Selfridges, so if I had the chance to do it all again, I’d like to hope that I could be arriving in…

The metallics trend is never too far away, and SS14 happily champions this shining staple yet again. From foil prints, molten metal finishes to frosted pigments and holographic hues, metallics have a way of being rather season-less, working as a standalone statement or as an accent to an existing trend. No matter how you want to embrace it, the good news is what ever piece you invest in now, know that it will be a keeper.

Last month, Italian luxury powerhouse, Fendi released their most adventurous capsule collection to date: cosmic, monster themed accessories in the form of purses, handbags and keyrings with leather “eyes” not an option and the ever popular monster bag charms (aptly named, “bag bugs“). It’s a bold and interesting direction for the designer brand. Are we celebrating fashion’s irrelevance or is Fendi reminding us that we just want to have fun?

Seriously, I am really quite open minded. However, I just might be one of the few who isn’t completely loving these little furry creations, and I’ve yet to find a naysayer among other FBloggers! Argument aside, the pieces do have iconic status and are luxuriously made – buttery leather and real fox fur, anyone? – but covetable? This blogger isn’t so sure. For me, it’s Angry Birds on acid.

While I do love whimsy as much as the next creatively-inspired gal, I much prefer the likes of Charlotte Olympia and Olympia Le-Tan for a dose of tongue-in-freak chic.
