Covering 30,000 sq feet under Waterloo’s tunnels, House of Vans is a skate – BMX – art – music – visual – event space which has at long last opened its doors today to a much anticipated London crowd. The House is divided into five tunnels each with a different event space. From the screening room in Tunnel 2 to the gig space of Tunnel 3, the House of Vans vibrates with energy, but it’s Tunnel 4 that has the very impressive pool-style skate park, complete with viewing hub and tv screens to catch all the skate/BMX talent.

As it’s the opening weekend, there’s a series of screenings, workshops and gigs over the next couple of days, and I rushed over this afternoon on Day 1 to find it happily lived up to every bit of its hype.

Skateboarding legends Tony Alva and Christian Hosoi were spotted, casually chatting in the adjacent cafe and later, Vans founder, Steve Van Doren himself – in a Hawaiian shirt and Vans slip ons of course. I gifted myself to a few freebies that were on hand, and then queued up for a visit to the pop up workshops in the Vans Labs – all while beats echoed through the tunnels from the resident DJ.

I got to try my hand at screen printing in Vans Lab #1, courtesy of Lovenskate. I printed my own very cool London edition House of Vans tshirt!

Afterwards, I queued up again for a bespoke House of Vans manicure from Wah Nails in Vans Lab #4. I chose the classic logo and 20 minutes later walked out with the cutest nail art design! I’m seriously impressed with the precision on the lettering – can’t stop looking at my nails.

Of course I can’t finish a blog article about Vans without sharing my wishlist for Autumn/Winter. As one can’t have too many Vans trainers – some I skate in, some I wear on dress down days – I have had to limit one pair per payslip though, however the wait is worth it.

Clockwise from top left: Vans Leopard Hello Kitty Authentic Trainers £50, Vans Sk8 Hi Hot Pink Leather Trainers £45, Vans Della Slip Ons £50, Vans Zig Zag Slip Ons £50, Vans Cosmic Galaxy Slip Ons £50

It would of been a weekend in March like any other except High Street heroes, Warehouse decided to put on a spectacularly stylish event in Brick Lane under the guise of a FREE fashion festival!

Fashion Shooters is the latest campaign from Warehouse launched in tandem with their SS14 collection. In my opinion, this is a totally exciting campaign wherein the brand encourages young photographers and novices alike to pick up their cameras and shoot! There’s also a competition to capture the 13th campaign shot for the brand, with mentoring by none other than the super talented Helena Christensen, who has extensive experience both in front of and behind the camera.

ImageAnd on that note, came the festival this past Saturday where bloggers, photographers and fashion enthusiasts were treated to a packed, wall-to-wall space of sponsored fashion, style, photography, food and pampering treatments.

With my weekend-appropriate OOTD all ready, channeling my Ska-loving days with hi-waisted tartan, I set off to the Loading Bay space just off Brick Lane, which lucky for me is a mere 10 minutes walk from my flat.

Since this festival was all about encouraging photography, I became a little snap-happy with my, um, iPhone at the event…

Wah Nails were on hand to dress the talons of London’s fashion pack, while I had a great demo of the latest hot tech gadget for iPhones. The 3-in-1 Olloclip lens is now firmly on my wishlist.

Quick bites were supplied by The Wandering Chef who aptly named their culinary creations after Instagram filters, below are the 1977 prawn cocktail and the Valencia ‪jamón ibérico‬ salad. Speaking of food, well done to Warehouse for keeping guests watered and fed throughout. There was Red Bull, bottles of Evian and endless chocolate passed around.‪‬

Also, on display was the latest photography work from students at the University for the Creative Arts.

There were queues for pretty much every station but it was all worth it for a free printed Tshirt or for a firsthand glimpse at the new Warehouse collection with Elle Magazine. There was truly something for everyone at the Fashion Shooters festival, seriously a day full of fashion and no fluff!
